Education: Dr. Zoolittle

Dr. ZoolittleMeet Dr. Zoolittle and Dr. Zoolittle, distinguished "professors" and "researchers" (as well as twins!) from the prestigious institution of N. Vironment University (N.U.), San Diego campus, located at the San Diego Zoo. After earning their doctoral degrees in environmental education, the twin doctors met Dr. Harry Lion of the San Diego Zoo. As fate would have it, the Zoo needed a research team willing to study rare and exotic dung samples. The Zoolittle team took on the exhaustive work, earning praise for their dung project and positions as field research scientists-in-residence at the San Diego campus of N.U., Children's Zoo division.

Current assignment

The Zoo has built an on-site "research facility" in the Children's Zoo where the Zoolittles capture the imagination of children and adults alike with their tales of adventures, from the windswept African savannas, where they collected elephant manure and observed the important work of the dung beetle, to the misty, bamboo-covered mountains of China, tracking the elusive giant panda by its smelly poop.

Making science fun!

The Zoolittles have a passion for helping children discover that science is FUN! You'll often find one of the doctors in the Children's Zoo demonstrating exciting science experiments. Each doctor strives to challenge children with questions and encourage them to become problem solvers.

The team has a fondness for scientific gadgetry. All manner of interesting devices and equipment are often strewn about the research station. Their love of gadgetry has led to the redesign of their own eyeglasses to fulfill the maximum number of uses and still be wearable. Their glasses function as sun goggles, sand goggles, star goggles, infrared goggles, moon goggles, scent goggles (especially helpful when hunting poop in poorly lit caves!), and bifocals. However, the glasses are also the subject of frequent panicked searches, as both doctors prove to be rather forgetful as to the whereabouts of their own and each other's spectacles.

Conservation counts

The Zoolittles have become close personal friends, as well as professional colleagues, with a number of Dr. Harry's associates, including Bamboo Bear, Ruby Hippo, and Monty Meerkat. All look to the Zoolittles for guidance on conservation and environmental issues. You can often see them consulting with one of the doctors on matters of world importance.

Where you can see them

You'll always find at least one Dr. Zoolittle sharing research findings daily during the summer and school holidays.
