Special Zoo hours: 9 a.m.–8 p.m.
(stay on grounds until 9 p.m.)

We're having a Fiesta! this summer at the San Diego Zoo, celebrating the Americas with special entertainment and animal encounters! Occurring each evening at the Zoo, the Fiesta lets you spend a warm summer evening outdoors in a tropical setting.

Splash! Faces of
the Wild

Themed with a party atmosphere, the Zoo's evening entertainment honors the vast culture of California, Central and South America's past and present, from live Latin and Peruvian music to brightly adorned performers. Don't miss a jaw-dropping unique entertainment experience called Splash! Faces of the Wild, where nature comes to life on canvas with an extraordinary combination of movement and music.

TALAMASCA performers

TALAMASCA: The Storytellers is a multimedia celebration of the real storytellers at the Zoo—our animal caretakers—punctuated by elegant acrobatics and cirque-style acts and set to energetic and soulful music.

Kids will be entertained and educated during Dr. Zoolittle’s Amazing Amazon Adventure show; other stories to be shared include Juanita Maria Sophia Bug Diva and Bugs on the Farm. Opportunities abound for distinctive craft making, where kids may learn the art of creating dreamcatchers or making sugar skulls and piñatas.

At the San Diego Zoo, the animals are always highlighted, with chances for an up-close encounter with Latin American critters like an armadillo, ocelot, sloth, and parrot, among many other exotic creatures.

Gourd carver Pablo Teodoro Hurtado Laveriano

Returning from Huancayo, Peru, Pablo Teodoro Hurtado Laveriano will be intricately carving the lagenaria vulgaris gourd. The technique involves etching fine lines into the gourd with a scalpel called a buril, creating a series of drawings that generally represent active scenes of farming life. A finished gourd might become a birdhouse, bowl, box, or even a basket. Visit Pablo at the Zoo's ZooStore to see this amazing handcrafted art Tuesdays–Sundays, 11 a.m.–7:30 p.m.

One of Kioko Mwitiki's metal designs

Kioko Mwitiki, a renowned metal sculptor from Kenya, breathes life into recycled metal. These unique metal animal designs have been exhibited across East Africa, Europe, and now the San Diego Zoo! Recognized as a pioneer, Kioko doesn't use any new iron sheets for his artwork; instead, he uses what most of us would consider rusty recyclables, from food cans to vehicle parts. Visit Mr. Mwitiki at the Zoo's GREENZOO shop July 7–September 2.

The San Diego Zoo would like to thank Frazee Paint for their continued support of the San Diego Zoo and Nighttime Zoo's Fiesta.
